Getting Around, Molokai Travel, Transport and Car Rental
(Molokai, Hawaii - HI, USA)
Since there is no public transport as such and a limited taxi service, hire cars will prove invaluable, particularly if you are intending to properly explore the island and travel away from your chosen resort. The main sights and beach resorts on Molokai tend to by fairly spread around the island, and so driving is the main mode of transport for many a tourist, although tour-buses may also be available and included within some holiday packages. For short distance, you may also like to consider bicycle hire, horses and even mules.
Traveling around the island by car is really a very straightforward transport option, as there are actually only three main roads, meaning that it is difficult to get lost. The smaller roads can become quite narrow at times, with sharp hairpin bends, and this is particularly the case on the eastern side. Therefore, do be sure to drive carefully, and as you travel along the picturesque cliff tops, don't be too distracted by the spectacular ocean views along the coastal stretches.
